Catalonia mobility flows

OD-Flows Explorer. An interactive map of 8000 real origin–destination corridors across Catalonia, drawn with zoom-LOD clustering, animated flow particles, and framework width/colour scales — scrub the hour, switch the season, and pick any flow or node.

A FlowmapLayer (a deck.gl CompositeLayer) renders Catalonia OD corridors with clusteringEnabled zoom-LOD super-nodes, particle flowLinesRenderingMode:'animated-straight', and adaptiveScalesEnabled framework scales, over a passive keyless MapLibre dark basemap. The camera is owned by deck.Deck({controller:true}); MapLibre follows via onViewStateChange → map.jumpTo.

Drag the map to pan/zoom — deck.gl is the sole camera authority; the clusters re-form per zoom level.

Default views

Four curated camera + lever presets.

Time slice

Slice may_weekday — 8000 corridors.

08:00

Each flow's weight = trips in this hour. Re-clusters on a ~250 ms debounce.

5000

Flowmap keeps the strongest corridors. Lower it to thin the hairball.

The headline flowmap feature: clusters re-form as you zoom.

Basemap

Keyless. The flows stay on top; the view is preserved.

Hover

Hover a flow or a node to inspect it.

These are month-window comparisons (Feb / May / Jun 2025), not a climate average. Flowmap re-aggregates its zoom-LOD super-nodes on every hour/slice change, so the levers settle on a ~250 ms debounce rather than an instant slide — the trade for clustering.
